The Cider House Rules | Hitchens Virtual Theatre

Set in a Maine orphanage in the 1940?s the story centers on Homer Wells, a young man (Maguire) who grows up in an orphanage run by Dr. Wilbur Larch (Caine), who takes the boy under his wing as his prot?g?. Against Dr. Larch?s wishes, he decides to strike out on his own and hitches a ride with a young couple, Wally and Candy (Rudd and Theron) to their family apple cider house. Homer?s experiences teach him lessons about life and love and how far he needs to travel to find where he truly belongs.

Synopsis: Based on John Irving's classic novel and set in the 1940s, this is the story of a young man who has spent his life in a Maine orphanage, under the auspices of its well-meaning but overprotective director. As an adult, he ventures out to see the world and try to make it a better place.
